Everyone has a story to tell, I just want my camera to tell it.

Today, the recession has a pit bull like lock on the neck of the city of Newark.  The state is dishing out lay-offs and budget cuts like a bad dinner plate. Tough times are evident. People’s hopes are being pressed upon in what seems to be a hopeless time. It can have you look and feel like there’s no reason to call this home. This woman, in my opinion, embodies what the city of Newark is going through today. I guess we all have tough times that we can’t escape in a tough city.

My Way Home- Common

Late Registration

“They say home is where the hate is
My dome is where fate is
I stroll where souls get lost like vegas
Seen through the eyes of rebel glasses
Pray to god that my arms reach the masses
The young smoke grass in grassless jungles
Rubberband together in cashless bundles
We wear struggling chains
Divided only hustle remains
Making sense of it we hustle for change

Revolution ain’t a game
It’s another name
For life fighting
Someone to stay in they corner like Mike Tyson
Hypes fighting for hits to heighten they hell
Don’t he know he only get as high as he fell
Show money becomes bail
Relationships become jail
Children are unheld
I wish love was for sale
Behold the pale
Horse got me trapped like r. kel’, I bail”

On Saturday September 4th I had the pleasure of shooting a car show with fellow photographer Kyle “Dex” Voorhees. The show was in Linden, New Jersey and I had a great time. I got to see and share the passion people have for their beautiful machines. It was an experience I would love to have again.

Enjoy!

“1931 Model A Ford Coupe”

Everytime I view this photo it just gives me a peace of mind with it. I still remember shooting it like it was yesterday. This artist was in this corner of the park, as if it was reserved for him. When I was viewing him while he was working, he gave me the feel of a person who wasn’t there with the rest of us in the park. It felt like he created his own place, his own space. And in that space, it was tranquility that fueled his art.

Diane Arbus is my favorite photographer. Her series of photos on deviant and marginal people (dwarfs, giants, transvestites, nudists, circus performers) or else of people whose normality seems ugly or surreal changed how photography was viewed in the 60’s. She showed an ugly truth to people who were ignored on a daily basis. She brought , what society viewed as ugly or abnormal, right to societies eyes. She would spend time with them in their homes building a connection into their world, into their lives, before she would photograph them. The end result of this was her work being displayed at The Museum of Modern Art. I draw inspiration from her work and hope one day my work will be good enough to inspire.

“A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you the less you know.”
